Bringing Art to Life: Orrick’s New LA Office.

Unispace just wrapped up designing Orrick’s new LA office—big tech’s legal powerhouse. But what set this project apart wasn’t just the sleek design—it was their vision to use art as a way to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Here’s where the magic really started: Unispace partnered with the incredible artist Robert Vargas to create murals that would embody the firm’s commitment to inclusion. We captured Vargas in action, painting these murals live at a downtown LA studio. The shoot included everything from a flash mob audience watching Vargas create, to the live unveiling at the Orrick office. It was a moment that changed the way I see the power of art in the workplace.

After this project, I finally had an answer to a question my business coach always asks me: “Lawrence, what do you care about?” Now I know—it’s global projects like this, where art and architecture come together to make workplaces not just better, but more inclusive for everyone.

Why Video? Because Pictures Can’t Speak Loud Enough

A project like this can’t just live in photos. You can’t tell the full story of diversity and inclusion in a single shot—you need the voices, the motion, the energy of the people who made it happen.

Video was the only way to do justice to Unispace’s mission. With video, we could capture Robert Vargas’ artistry in action, interview the key players, and showcase the entire journey from concept to completion. Photos show 1,000 words, but this project needed a trillion.

We didn’t just want people to look at the murals—we wanted them to feel the impact, hear from the artist, and understand the why behind every stroke. And everyone involved—from Unispace to Orrick—felt it. That’s the power of film.

Art with Heart: Unispace’s Vision

Unispace wasn’t just looking for a beautifully designed office—they wanted art with heart. Their goal was to create a workspace that brought art into the fold, to highlight the importance of DEI in the workplace.

They also knew that video would be the best way to communicate this vision to the world. Why was this art chosen? What does it represent for Orrick? What is Robert Vargas all about? Unispace understood that people don’t want to just see a space—they want to understand it, and video was our way to make that connection.

A Week with an Artist: Time Well Spent

Originally, we thought this would be a one-day art shoot. But Robert Vargas works in his own rhythm—he’s an artist who creates live, in the moment. So, what we thought would be one day turned into five days at a rented downtown studio.

Day one? No painting. Instead, Vargas rolled up in his 70s Stingray, and we spent the day out with his crew. No filming, no photography—just living in the moment. And honestly, it was one of those peak moments in my career. Art, architecture, and now food? If I had died then, I would’ve been at peace.

By Wednesday, we were back on track, filming the creation of the murals and even capturing a surprise 30-person live event as part of the process. It was an incredible journey, capped by an interview with Robert Vargas against the LA skyline at sunset. That’s the beauty of working with true creatives—you just go with the flow, and the results are magic.

A Masterclass in Storytelling: How Unispace Used Our Work

Unispace is a master at campaign strategy. Before we even started filming, they mapped out how they would use every piece of content we created. We delivered a 3-minute video, 30-second social media cuts, and architectural photography that was perfectly tailored for every platform.

From email campaigns to trade shows and national conventions, Unispace rolled out their message across the board. We even saw a huge spike in viewership after launching the video, proving that the message was hitting its mark.

Record-Breaking Feedback

The feedback? Nothing short of record-breaking. Our first photo and film project with Unispace in six years took their video watch times from 15 seconds to 30 seconds—doubling engagement.

Unispace knew they had a story that the world needed to hear, and our video helped them tell it. Since this production, we’ve booked over 20 more projects with Unispace, from London to New Zealand. The results speak for themselves—this is how you grow a global brand.

Global Projects on the Horizon
Looking forward, Unispace has more exciting projects coming up—and we’re right there with them. Right now, we’re working on two Living Building Challenge projects in New Zealand, and a global art initiative in Nicaragua where we’re turning beach trash into art.

The impact? Beyond the workplace. Art, architecture, sustainability—it’s all part of the story we’re helping to tell through film.

At Lawrence Anderson Studio, we believe in the synergy of visual storytelling and comprehensive service packages. Our approach isn't just about delivering content; it's about crafting experiences that resonate, engage, and inspire. Let's embark on a journey to elevate your vision, transforming your projects into narratives that captivate and convert.
